THE FILMMAKER: Ema Ryan

Japan -born Ema Ryan was raised in a bilingual household of English and Japanese. After graduating from a Japanese elementary school, she attended an international school where she developed a passion for dance and filmmaking. Ema moved to New York City in 2008 and is studying film production at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a particular interest in documentary filmmaking.

    Fantastic movie, you have captured the essence of Yamazaki’s life perfectly. I loved watching this movie, every scene taught me something. I can imagine you working hard behind the scenes and planning everything. How about following Mr. Mosser around CA, that would be an interesting movie :)

SYNOPSIS

82-year-old Shigekazu Yamazaki’s life is simple. Living in a small suburban town in Japan, he walks to community meetings and bicycles to the local market. But here is a man who lived through the war and, after the war, through poverty and prosperity. Shigekazu is full of gratitude for what he has: “lifelong learning,” as he proudly says.
