Yared Zeleke immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia at the age of ten. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in International Development, his interest in global issues led him to study, work, travel and live in a dozen countries, including Namibia and Norway. Mr. Zeleke is currently pursuing his M.F.A in directing at New York University’s Kanbar Film Institute.

Ye’absira, or Allula, is a five year old who came close to being orphaned in one of the slums of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Crippled by malnourishment and with his impoverished grandmother as his only caretaker, Allula was nearly left for dead before a neighbor intervened to help the young boy recover and live out his childhood.
To see a world so different from what I know is such an enriching experience. Great film, enjoyed it very much!
